Privacy & terms

DriveDocs is a personal document wallet. It is not an official state-issued digital driver's license, government service, or verified identity credential. Carry your physical license and other documents as required. Showing a saved copy does not guarantee acceptance.

1. Your saved wallet

Documents and photos are encrypted together in this browser using AES-256-GCM and a key derived from your PIN. There is no document-sync account. We cannot recover your PIN or restore a lost local wallet for you. Encryption does not protect an unlocked screen, an already-compromised device, or information you choose to share.

New PINs have six digits. Existing four-digit wallets can be migrated after unlocking; use Settings to choose a stronger PIN. Keep your device locked and software up to date.

2. Optional AI scanning

Before each AI scan, the app asks permission to send the document photo through our Netlify-hosted function to Anthropic's Claude service to extract fields. Photos can contain names, addresses, dates of birth, document numbers, and other sensitive information. Cancel the scan prompt to save the photo locally and enter fields yourself.

The scan function does not intentionally store the image or log extracted document contents. Processing still involves external providers and their operational systems. Provider retention and data-use rules depend on their policies and the service configuration. See Anthropic's privacy policy and Netlify's privacy policy. Review every extracted field before saving; AI can make mistakes.

3. Operational data and scanning limits

We use Plausible Analytics, a cookieless, privacy-focused service, to count page visits. It does not use cookies, track you across sites, or receive your document contents. There is no advertising. Hosting services may retain standard request and security logs, including IP addresses. DriveDocs uses a random browser-installation identifier for scan allowances. Durable counters and keyed hashes of identifiers and IP addresses are processed using Upstash Redis; no document contents are included in those counters. Rate-limit counters expire after two minutes. Successful free-scan counters persist to enforce the installation allowance. See Upstash's privacy policy.

The free allowance is up to three successful AI scans per browser installation, not a verified lifetime allowance per person. Invalid and failed scans are refunded when the metering service is available. Server interruptions can require support to correct an allowance. Rate limits apply to all plans.

4. Backups, clearing storage, and changing devices

Use Settings to download an encrypted document backup. Keep its PIN separately. The backup retains the PIN used when it was made, even if you later change the app PIN. Restore validates the backup and saves it under your current app PIN. Protect backups as sensitive files.

Clearing browser data, private browsing, browser storage eviction, uninstalling an app, or changing devices may remove your wallet. A different browser may have a different wallet. Export a backup before these changes. Resetting the wallet deletes documents in this browser; it does not cancel a subscription or erase copies already shared.

5. Sharing and age summaries

QR codes contain the selected information directly. Recipients can save or forward it. Closing the display stops showing the code but cannot revoke data already scanned or copied. The age summary shares whether the entered birth date indicates age 21 or older. It does not verify the birth date, identity, or authenticity of a document.

6. Optional paid plans

Paid plans are available only when enabled in the app. The displayed plans are $39.99 per year or $4.99 per month, in US dollars; Stripe Checkout shows the final terms before payment. Subscriptions renew until canceled. Stripe handles payment details; documents are not included in payment requests. See Stripe's privacy policy.

Use Settings to manage billing and cancellation. Download a separate purchase recovery file after payment to restore access on another browser. That file grants access to your subscription and billing portal, so keep it private. It contains subscription identifiers and a signed entitlement, not document photos. If you lose it, contact support; automatic email-based restoration is not included in this release.

Offline Pro access is checked using a signed entitlement lasting up to three days, capped by the paid period end. Reconnect to refresh it. Existing saved documents remain viewable when Pro access expires. Contact support for payment or refund questions; no refund is automatically promised by this notice.

7. Offline access and reminders

After the app's offline setup completes, saved documents can be opened without internet. AI scanning, purchases, purchase restoration, and billing management require internet. Expiry reminders appear inside the unlocked app. You can also add your expiry and inspection dates to your phone’s calendar from Settings. The calendar file is created on your device and is not sent to DriveDocs. Once added, the events are held by your calendar app and by any calendar service it syncs with, such as iCloud or Google, under their policies. Calendar events do not update automatically; add them again after you change a date.

8. Using DriveDocs

Use DriveDocs only for documents you are authorized to store. Check all saved information against the original. Do not present edited or self-reported information as a government-verified credential. Do not operate the app while driving. Emergency features are convenience shortcuts and do not replace emergency services.

These terms describe this release's behavior. We may update the notice when features or processing change. Significant changes will require a new in-app acknowledgment. Questions about data handling, billing, or these terms can be sent to hello@mydrivedocs.com. Do not email license photos, PINs, or payment card details.

9. Your data and our responsibility

DriveDocs does not store your documents. Your documents and photos are encrypted and kept only on your own device. We do not hold a copy, cannot view them, and cannot recover or restore them for you. You are responsible for your device, your PIN, your backups, and the accuracy of what you save.

Documents can be lost if your device is lost, stolen, damaged, or reset, if browser data is cleared, or if you forget your PIN. DriveDocs is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, DriveDocs LLC is not liable for lost or inaccessible documents or backups, errors in scanned or saved information, a saved copy not being accepted by any person or agency, or any decision or penalty that results from relying on the app instead of your original documents. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have by law that cannot be limited.
